James

Walkerton, IN

My name is James Hartley, I am a 65-year-old semi-retired independent sales contractor And a Viet Nam Veteran, a task which I volunteered for at the age of 17. I grew up in the 20th Century. My father’s (himself a combat veteran of WWII and a member of the Greatest Generation ) work ethic was that “if you don’t work, you don’t eat,” and “there is always something that you can do to better yourself ” was instilled in me at a very young age. The added benefit of this philosophy is that one derives self-worth and compassion by not depending on someone else to take care of them. Generosity and caring for the less fortunate is a personal matter not a government issue.

We do not need Obamacare, that is, the government taking over 1/6 of the national economy. One only need to look at the VA healthcare system, the post office, and Medicare to know that the government is totally inept in these matters. The very future of our democratic republic stands at the precipice of time over this issue, and it is not about healthcare, but about control!

America has the chance to become the first democracy ever to last more than 250 years, and we do not have to go down the road of all humankind in regards to voting ourselves largess and thus the demise of the free-enterprise system. The left in Washington does not believe in American exceptionalism. Our founding fathers did and so do I. It is not too late for us to remain a shining city on a hill that all the world envies and wants to immigrate to. We will regain respect in the world when we regain our own self-respect! I implore you to reject this naked grab for power by the Obama administration, for yourselves, for your children, and for your posterity!
