I am a stay at home mom. We have two adopted children that, according to their adoption contract have Medicaid/Employer Insurance. This Medicaid is Coventry Cares, one of 3 plans in KY as of today. We just got our employer-sponsored plan and it could bankrupt us if we have to use it. We have monthly payments, but for the first time ever we have a $5,000 deductible. We have one child that uses approximately 1,000 a month in medical. Most of that is pharmacy. It is paid both by my husband’s employer insurance and the rest by his medicaid. From previous experience we have found that Medicaid will not pay one penny if there is a deductible. And I’m hearing that medicines or some medicines will not be part of our deductible. So, for us, starting January 1, we will need to come up with approximately $1,000 more a month in addition to our regular insurance payment, And this is if no other sickness, accident or anything happens. We have no recourse because we HAVE employer insurance. I hope that Medicaid WILL pay what they always have, but if they do not, we will have to pay approx. $1500 a month where we were paying $500 a month this year. Our insurance allows 1 person to reach their own deductible level only. So he will definitely be it. Scary.. While there is no way to check the facts of the pharmacy polices or the new Medicaid policies that we can find, we’re in a strange predicament with sickly children.
Thanks for listening!
