I am a Certified Reform Specialist hoping to be able to assist individuals who TRULY NEED “Affordable health care”. I just spent 3 1/2 hrs. with an individual, age 61 who had a heart transplant in 2010…is a severe diabetic and 2 neck surgeries (which has not corrected the problem) and currently has no health insurance. Her husband is medicare eligible, drawing early social security retirement, which is the only income they receive ($18,000). He has been a hard working American who had no retirement, and thus the Social Security benefit is all they make.
The wife has applied for Medicaid, but as she has never worked so she could contribute into the Medicare/Social security pool, was turned down by Medicaid either by income level or from a disability standpoint, even though she has substantial physical limitations. I tried to help her apply for ObamaCare website, and the site said she was “ineligible”! I called and had to work up to a supervisor, who was most helpful, but after “Redoing” this lady’s application for the third time, she could not understand why she was ineligible….I am going to write an appeal for this poor lady, but it would seem “logical” THAT ANY INELIGIBLE DECISION WOULD BE ABLE TO SAY WHY!!!?? but no such explanation. A “family of 2 ” suppose to qualify for a subsidy if they have a taxable income of $62,000. Would you say $18,000 is Less!?
