CRUZ: You can count on me to do what I say I will do

Cruz participates in Iowa Agricultural Summit to talk about farming issues

DES MOINES, IOWA — Today U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, participated in the Iowa Agricultural Summit hosted by Bruce Rastetter. Cruz highlighted issues important to Iowa’s farming communities. Among the topics discussed were the Renewable Fuel Standard, immigration, trade, biotech, and health care.

He struck a chord with the attendees when he showed that he was willing to tell them the truth about where he stands.

“People are pretty fed up, I think, with politicians that run around and tell one group one thing and tell another group another thing, and then they go to Washington and they don’t do anything they said they would do,” Cruz said. “And I think that’s a big part of the reason we have the problems we have in Washington. We have career politicians in both parties who aren’t listening to the American people and that aren’t doing what they said they would do.”

Cruz made it clear that he supports renewable fuels, but could not support policies from Washington that pick winners and losers in the market.

“I have every bit of faith that businesses can continue to compete, can continue to do well, without having to go on bended-knee to Washington asking for subsidies and asking for special favors. I think that’s how we got into this problem to begin with.”

Cruz went on, “There are a lot of politicians who are going to come and tell you whatever you want to hear. And they do that in every environment…and on the stump they sound great.”

“Now I bet I’m not the only person here who’s been disappointed with politicians in Washington, who is tired of people blowing smoke. A few months ago, my wife Heidi and I…took the girls to the Children’s Museum and there was a police officer there…And he walked up to me and said, ‘You know, I didn’t vote for you, but I’ll say this, you’ve done what you said you would do.'”

“And so when I tell you that I will fight with every breath in my body that I will stop the government regulations that are strangling the family farms, that are strangling the ranches, that are strangling the small businesses, killing job growth; when I tell you I will fight to stop the EPA from expanding the waters of the United States; when I tell you that I will fight to stop Obamacare and executive amnesty, then you know you can count on that, that I would do what I said I would do, that I will tell you the truth.”
