I have had the privilege of practicing Emergency Medicine in Texas for 12 years. In the short term, Obamacare will destroy this Medical sanctuary for the sick and dying to come and receive rapid life saving care because more people will utilize the ED as a place to: avoid the increased costs of health care in all PPACA approved Insurance plans; avoid the waits for primary care that are coming under Obamacare; avoid the increased costs to Medicare patients under the PPACA; and, avoid the limitations of reduced testing practices for serious but rare causes of symptoms that the PPACA will pay primary Care Doctors to abide by with patients under ObamaCare. In the long term, the PPACA will remove innovation and excellence in Health Care and turn this glorious mission of Emergency Medicine into an underfunded obligation for those Doctors who couldn’t join the emerging elite private Members only Healthcare that will result from the law called Obamacare.
