My wife and I have a new 4 month old son, Maddox. I had a PPO plan through my employer. We just received notice that all but two plans are being dropped this year. The PPO I’m on will stick around for one more year, and then it will go away next year, but even if I stuck with it, the overall costs for that plan are going up. After next year my company will only offer an HD plan with an HSA, which sounds like an OK alternative, but I just wish I had been able to make that decision rather than having it be forced upon me.
Secondly, my wife just completed her Masters Degree to become a Lic. Clinical Therapist (LCP). According to Texas law, as an intern earning her hours to become licensed, she cannot see insured clients. So the gentleman that owns the practice is now scrambling to find out how his interns will get their hours now that every American is REQUIRED BY LAW to have medical insurance. This will potentially affect EVERY LCP candidate in the state of Texas at least. I have limited info so hopefully someone can look into this.
