I am self-employed and have private insurance which I have always had since I was young- Medica Encore in Minnesota. I was told by Obama that we could keep our same insurance if we had our own policies. Well… that is not exactly accurate. My past insurance was $4150 deductible, giving me $500 worth of annual physical money every year not attached to my deductible. Now, I must swallow $6250 deductible with no annual money for an annual physical. My rates went up monthly from $381 to $491– I could barely afford the old price let alone the new one! I have to pay 40% now– they pay 60%– before I had to meet my deductible and then they would pay 100%. I guess Medica has a “deal” with Target Pharmacies so you can go in for a doctor visit for a $10 copay– who wants to go to Target??? Not me– I want to go see my regular doctor that I have seen forever. I am 59 years old and can’t even think about retiring EVER because I have to have this outrageous health insurance that is going to drain me!
