Two weeks ago I received a letter from my insurance company informing me that my health premiums are increasing 290%. I had a catastrophic plan that covered major illness or accident, which is the true role for insurance. I liked it very much because it was cheap.
Unfortunately such a plan is no longer allowed under the new law because it doesn’t include essential services required by the government such as maternity care and inpatient heroin addiction treatment; services that I don’t need or want but now have to pay for anyway. It’s not fair. I wish Senate Republicans had fought for people like me as hard as Senator Cruz did.
